are you riding on paved road or off road?
if you are riding mostly on paved roads, i suggest you put on sleeks. There are several sizes(1.15,1.38,etc). This will make your ride better w/ lesser rolling friction.
if you ride on rough roads, i think that setup will suite you.

Lost of people use hardtails for touring and long rides. Im not sure if they are the best type, but they can certainly do the job. For riding on the road, fit some 1.5 slick tyres and you will be almost as efficient as a touring bike. Fit some bar ends or aerobars to provide alternate hand positions.
