Great music is the key to spin classes
It's not the ladies that keep me going to spin classes, it's the music. Especially tonight because the instructor and I are the same age, I was happily spinning away to music I love. He was blasting '80s pop and hair/glam band stuff. Journey, Foreigner, ZZ Top, Styxx, Kansas, Crue and a sprinkling of Zeppelin. That hour of serious climbing went quickly. Looking forward to the next class already.

My experience is different. I can often do better with no music at all. I guess it depends if you zone into the music or not. Personally, I find it distracting.

I find that sometimes I like listening to opera (!), sometimes rock. And, sometimes no music at all. Just depends on the mood .

At the spin I go to we have structured rides. The music will cater for the ride- whether you are spinning- Climbing hills- recovering- Chasing- You name it and the music has the right cadence for what you are doing. The instructor loves rock so we spend a lot of the ride at a cadence of 105. And for the hills it is John Lee Hooker. Steeper and harder the hill, the slower the cadence. For some reason- J L H is the music I have on the I Pod for the hills on my normal ride.
