Nermal asked me to let you know

that he had a run in with a car, broke the windshield. His helmet is fine. He has no glass injuries. Some road rash. He's got some pelvic fractures, two broken ribs, and a collar bone. This happened a week ago, and he's just been transferred to a rehab facility. He'll be in touch when he has computer access.

I'll check in here again tomorrow (he asked me to post on the 50+ forum too) and probably be talking to him in the evening. He's sure better than he was, and has retained his pithy sense of humor.

Thank you for letting us know noncycle. I am sorry to hear about the accident and hope Nermal's recovery goes well.

Please tell Nermal to get well soon from the Bike Forum members. Then ask if his bike was hurt? His sense of humor may appreciate that.

Can't put together a report right now. Sitting is uncomfortable and the keyboard is an awkward reach. Anyway, I'm home as of noon thursday and they say it will be at least 8 weeks till I can get back on the bike - which I haven't seen yet.

Still lazy enough to just copy this post onto the topic in the general forum.

All part of bike riding. Broke a couple myself along with getting a birds eye view of the under carriages of vehicles while they are moving. I don't expect/want a violin orchestra.

Interesting that I should read this today. I just got a bike and after my first little ride I was wondering if the old saying about motorcyclists applies to bicyclists, also? They say there are two kinds of people who ride motorcycles: those who have gone down, and those who are going down.

Nermal, I'm new here, but I'm wishing you a swift recovery!

Motorcycles are a bit different. First of all, they weigh hundreds of pounds not a couple dozen. Once they start going over, it can be nearly impossible to stop it. It is pretty easy to lay a motorcycle down. And most people have not been riding motorcycles since they were 7 years old like most bike riders.

It isn't normal to be involved in multiple accidents with cars. Either you are unlucky or really need to re-evaluate your riding skills/location. Unfortunately it is pretty much standard for cyclists to run through intersections without stopping, filter past a long line of cars on the right, or to ride in highly congested areas such as some MUPs or divided highways.

slowandsteady, thanks for that. I don't mind taking a small header here and there, but I'd like to think that hospitalization isn't part and parcel of this hobby. :-/

Rib fractures can make you feel like you're dying when you're not.

Just ride defensively and be hyper vigilant of your surroundings, you'll be fine.

Nermal -- best regards. Heal up soon.
