Any comments on Schwinn Fastback Comp?

Its been a long time since I've ridden a bike. I don't think I've ridden one since I got my drivers license.

Anyway, prior to that I had a Fuji SJ-10 (I think that is what it was). It wasn't light, but it felt pretty solid, and I liked the way it rode.

My girlfriend is prodding me to get a bike for the purpose of getting out of the house and getting some exercise. I've test ridden both hybrids and road bikes. Despite the additional comfort of a hybrid, I think I am more interested in the way a street bike can glide down the road.

So I road several alluminum framed bikes, and even with carbon forks, I found most of them to ride rough. I thought steel may be my answer, but then I rode the Schwinn Fastback Pro. I really like the way the bike feels firm, but it doesn't bother you with the little bumps in the road.

My local shop has a large Fastback Pro, and a small Fastback Comp. They will sell me the Comp for $999. This seems like a pretty good deal.

Regarding size, I did feel I was leaned over pretty far on the large bike, even though height didn't seem to be an issue with this unique frame. I have yet to see/ride the small. I am 5'8" tall. Since I haven't ridden in a long time, I don't really have a reference point for comfort. Is the small likely to be too small for me? The specs on Schwinn's sight doesn't make it seem like the small is really that much smaller.

At 230lbs, am I going to bust the heck out of the frame and wheels? Obviously they didn't profile a guy like me when they built this bike.

Does anyone have an opinion of this bike? I liked the ride. Does anyone have anything negative to say about the bike (asside from the usual seat swap stuff)? The price seems good for a 105 equipped bike with nice wheels. Should I demand a bigger discount due to the impending sale of Schwinn?

Initially I intend to ride trails. Where I go from there I don't know. This bike could rot away in the garage, or I could get motivated to race. I figured $999 for a bike at this level still makes sense since $700 is very entry level.

I guess the summary of my questions is:

1. Is large to large and small too small for me at 5'8" with 29" inseam?
2. Am I too heavy for this bike?
3. Is it a good bike?
4. Is this a good price?

Thanks. I really appreciate any input.
