"Breaking Away" still a good flick!

My wife and I watched the movie "Breaking Away" last night on tv. It's been a long time since I last saw it, but it is still a very good four-star movie with lots of bike racing action and great acting. All the action takes place at Indiana University. In the movie, the father of the lead role (his teen-aged son) is a rather authoritarian, no b.s. used car salesman who keeps his bike racer son on a tight leash. My wife, who has faulty judgement, said I'm just like him.

The funniest gag in that movie is that the kid pretends to be an actual Italian (complete with exaggerated accent) and his dad just doesn't get the joke.

I have never seen it, but heard it was good. I think they said it will be on again later this month. I will have to make sure and watch it.

If you have not seen it, it is a must see. If you grew up in the 70's (like me) you will really like it. Life at the time did not seem simple, but looking back it sure was (also co-staring Dennis Quaid and...the name escapes me...the duffus from "Home Alone", not Joe Peschi, the other one).

GO CUTTERS!!

Both "Breaking Away" and "Caddy Shack" are my "take me back to the good old days/comfort" movies. I can't help but feel good after watching either.

I like it when they give him the bike that was issued for the last race and he says "What a piece of junk." Later, at the beginning of the race they call it a roadmaster? Or is it AMF? I just thought it was funny because the bike he starts the movie with is a Masi. Also who could forget when he drafts the team cinzano truck 50 miles into Bloomington at 60mph.

Daniel Stern.

Great movie. Note that he drafts that truck on the small ring.

Interesting detail. Maybe they should have crafted two smaller rings where the larger ring was small enough to film the scene and give the illusion more credibility. . . or just have the guy tough it out in the large ring.

Take #151, "Drafting Scene". . . my legs are shot man, film without me!

Dad: What is this?
Mom: It's sauteed zucchini.
Dad: It's I-tey food. I don't want no I-tey food.
Mom: It's not. I got it at the A&P. It's like... squash.
Dad: I know I-tey food when I hear it! It's all them "eenie" foods... zucchini... and linguini... and fettuccine. I want some American food, dammit! I want French fries!

Hahaha.....I just tuned in to see them do that race at the Indy track, what do they call that race? The little 500 or something? I wish they did something like that here.

One thing I remember is that one of the italians throws the guy his pump and essentially derails him, and later you see the bike is in perfect condition, not a ding on it!
