I could be wrong here but if you're getting $50 for a 1980s touring bicycle, I think you are doing VERY well!

I've got a 1980s touring bicycle in my collection and I can't imagine getting anything more than about $10 for it, if that.

Is it badly beat-up or is there just not much market for bikes? In Toronto ten-speeds from the 80s seem to go for about $150 apiece. Case in point (a touring bike even): https://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/355380121.html .

Or how about this cruiser?... "Built for commuting and sport riding"

Toronto is pretty ridiculous when it comes to bicycle pricing, I must admit.

It's not in terrible shape, but when you can go into a thrift shop and there are half a dozen newer mtn bikes all going for about $10-$25, I highly doubt an old touring bicycle would get a second glance.

Old road bikes are worth a lot more than $50 now in most big cities. Talk to the guys in C&V. Here in Austin you can get $100 for a crap vintage road bike and plenty more for a nicer one.
