Does anyone have any thoughts on pressure limits on clipless pedals? I weigh a lot an put a lot of force on the pedals, even while spinning. I have look multi-purpose pedals, and road shoes, circa 1980, and I find that the bottom of the shoe presses into my foot while I ride. I have some new SPD shoes I haven't yet ridden, and was wondering if I was likely to end up just pressing on the tiny area above the pedal, or if the shoes will spread out the weight. If not, then I am thinking I should go with one of the pedals like the shimano 323, or performance campus, or nashbar rodeo, which look like old style pedals, but with a clipless attachment on one side.

Get a shoe with a stiff sole - some people I know use a multi-purpose shoe but I like a pure road shoe with the stiffest sole possible.

For cleats, I prefer the Look-style since 1) it's easy to get in and out of and 2) it distributes the pressure over a wider area.

I wondered about that too before I got the eggbeaters since the eggbeaters are extremely narrow - I thought I would feel the pedals throught the shoes. But it is not a problem whatsoever - the shoes spread out the force so it is not even a consideration.

In my earlier reply to this thread I mentioned trying out some cheaper pedals which I had to return - these were Nashbar Rodeos (platform on one side, clip-in mechanism on the other). I thought they would be the way to go since I could use regular shoes if I needed to and they were cheap. But when I put them on the bike and tried to clip in, it was extremely difficult (there may have been interferance with the shoe soles). After getting one shoe clipped in, I could not get it out so I had to return pedals and shoes to Nashbar. Even if these pedals were working properly and there were no interferance issues, I still think they would be more difficult to clip in to than egg beaters. Also you would have to spin the pedal around if it was on the wrong side. With egg beaters all you have to do is put your foot on the pedal and press. You do not need to get it in exactly the right spot, there is a lot of lee-way. I've heard that they are coming out with a new model that has a platform built around it so you can use it with regualr shoes - might be worth checking out if you really need that versitility.

Speedplay.
Very easy to clip in, no accidental clip outs.
Took me one ride to really like them. I love the float.
I had to move the cleats out a little because when standing going up hill I would tap the crank arms. Problem seems to be solved.

Hi, guys! I switched to clipless pedals 3 months ago and i'm happy with it, although I'm not confident enough on gnarly sections. Anyway...
The problem is, that sometimes my legs, espesially the right one, tingle arount the toes, mostly on the outer side. I ride with 661 Launch shoes which are pritty comfy, but little loose maybe, and VP-133 pedals which are DH model with cage around clip mechanism. I thing everything with adjustment of the cleats is alright, the ball of my foot is on the pedal axle and they are oriented so that my stanse on the bike mimic what it feels when walking or standing. I'm pigeon-toed, so my cleat is angled toward the outside of my shoe.
People told me tha this formication is normal, but i'm not very sure. It occurs mainly when I pedal, no matter hard or easy, but not any time and that's the worst part - I can't find any regularity in it. Sometimes they tingle, sometimes not. Is there a real problem or that's just normal?
Thanks in advance!

You should have posted this in a new thread rather than revive a thread that's been dead for over 2 years. Search to read and learn, not to dredge up long dead and more recently rehashed topics
