Look up delivery or courier in your yellow pages and call. Couriers are almost always hiring so they rarely run ads. And as I mentioned on another thread go downtown find out where the bike couriers hang out at and find out where the best place to work is. They usually are at a cheap eats place or coffee stand. The best way to find out which are hiring is to stop one of the messengers and talk to him. They will know if they need more messengers. Most never advertise. Some companies like to have only the bare minimum # of messengers and work them hard and some like to have way too many and everyone sits around and does nothing. I was a messenger for about 4 or 5 years in Los Angeles and Houston. LA was a blast once I found the right company. I was the only bike messenger they had so I had all runs in between Beverly Hills and Century City. I averaged about 40-60 miles a day and loved it. In Houston the downtown area is not very large and we had too many messengers for the business. They didn't care because we were contract and worked on commission only. Overall it can be a fun job but I did get burnd out on cycling. I am just now getting back into it after almost 10 years. Good luck!

If you want to work as a messenger, be forewarned; it is a hard and dangerous job. You'll be expected to work 10-12 hours a day, in all kinds of weather. Also, it is a year-round job-most messenger companies won't even consider full-time students. Miss a couple days of work, and you're history. I'd bet that every company requires messengers to be at least 18, too.
