Nashbar

Ok, so this was my first time ordering through Nashbar (I usually use my LBS, but I saw a good deal in Nashbar, and my LBS did not have any in stock) and I ordered some short on the 9th of July. I received an email on the 10th that said they where shipped that day (I choice poorly and went with the cheapest shipping, USPS) so on Friday, the 25th, my shorts still had not come in, so I called Nashbar and talk to someone in CS and they told me that it takes 7-15 business days for shippmet through USPS, and that they where not going to talk to me about my order until the end of the 15 business days, sure enough they can in, the 30th, 15 business days later
Is this normal for Nashbar?
I did not think that anything would take 20 days to ship USPS, and my question is, 15 busniness days is M-F or M-Sat (since the post office is open on Sat. should that count as a business day?)
If I order through them again, should I "upgrade" to a faster shippinig, or just plan on not recieving what I order for a month?

once i had a nightmare with them, i paid for 2nd day and they downgraded me telling me 2nd day wasnt available where i live (NY) which it is and i have used a hundred times through various vendors. They credited me the diff in shipping but never told me. i was pissed so i called them and they credited me all the shipping. I swore i would never use them again and sure enough they had such awesome proces one day i did again expecting lousy shipping i picked 2nd dayany way and recieved it with 48 hours.

I just had the EXACT same problem with Nashbar. After several e-mails to customer service (most came back to me as undeliverable!), and phone calls, I ended up faxing a "delivery claim form" to them. However, to date I've yet to receive anything.

Their customer service leaves something to be desired, IMHO.

wow geez... whenever i order anything from nashbar i usually get it within 3-4 days!!

zman92atl 07-31-03 07:17 AM

I just received an order (one hour ago) from them that I had placed on 7/25. I am here in GA not far from you. I also ordered the slow USPS as always on my orders with them. I think I got lucky this time as the last few orders did take up to 12 days from my order date. I think your case is a little extreme though. I know they are in OH so it shouldn't take more than a few days. I would call them if you haven't received by today and next time order 2nd day, I will.

I forgot to mention one problem they always seem to have is they charge me an extra penny out of my charge card that is not stated on my order receipt. It's only a penny but it still messes with my checking acct. I should call them one day and act like I bounced 5 checks because of the one penny.

ridealot 07-31-03 07:25 AM

Never really had a problem with orders through them. Usually 4-6 days if that. Of course I live in Ohio which is where they are so I wonder if that helps?

I have had several orders through nashbar over the years, 4 or 5 this year, never any problem, but I always go with the lowest price shipping. my orders this year took roughly 4 days to get to maryland.

they charge you an extra penny everytime? Does this happen to everyone?
if they charge everyone an extra penny, then they are making alot of money that way, just think about it...

i have desided that my problem is that i live in AL, where things are like the true South "slow" we have stores that close in betwen 2pm and 4pm still, and no one in ever in a hurry unless you are infront of them on a bike, but i do not know...

but outside of shipping, does everyone seem to be happy with Nashbar? or do you use Perforance more?

Ba-Dg-Er 07-31-03 08:17 AM

I have had nothing but problems with nashbar and performance so I refuse to use them even if they have slightly lower prices. I would much prefer spending extra money for piece of mind and speedy delivery.

Hey alucky,

I just went through a carbon copy experience. Ordered something on a Saturday, received shipment notification via email the following Monday. Waited 2 weeks, no product, and called customer service. The gentleman was nice, and told me that the item had in fact been shipped as stated, and mentioned that it must be the post office's fault for not arriving. Informed me to wait a full 15 business days and then enter a claim. And wouldn't you know the product arrived on the 15th business day? Hmmmm...

I could have paid $5.00 extra for 2nd Day Air, and avoided my package being shipped around the country before coming here. I've had shipments from overseas arrive in half the time. I'll order from them again, but will always pay extra for 2nd Day. And to be honest, I don't believe for a second it was shipped when stated.

Take care!

You can thank the UPS strike of a few years ago for this. Prior to that, they shipped everything UPS and you could easily see how long it would take for it to get to you. 5 bus. days max. I'm in MD and ground shipments from OH (where Nashbar is located) would take 2 days. After the strike, they started using USPS for a lot of stuff.

I've been ordering from them for years and have never had a problem, same w/ Performance. I did stop ordering from Supergo (a.k.a. Super Slow) because of repeated problems, being charged the wrong prices and taking many days before the order even shipped.

This is why I always try to find a low-price-guarantee shop and take a printout from Nashbar to them so they can match the price if it's lower than theirs. Performance Bike works very well with this method.

My co-worker has been having a problem with Nashbar's shipping as well. His stuff was sent FedEx ground and Nasbar coded it as Residential instead of Business so they've come out to the business twice, after hours trying to deliver. Finally they got it right today and he got the stuff he ordered.

I really like Team Performance because I get upgraded shipping to UPS 2nd day on all orders.

I regularly order from Nashbar and Performance Bike and have never had a problem. 3 orders from Performance and 4 from Nashbar over the past year.

I too regularly order stuff from Nashbar and never had a problem. Just placed an order this morning (Thurs) and it is scheduled to arrive next Wednesday by FedEx so that's less than a week. In my experience they are good about returns and they have the lowest prices of all the online bike stores.

supcom 07-31-03 06:53 PM

I usually order from Nashbar and always use the cheapest shipping option. Stuff almost always arrives within a week. If it takes a little longer, so be it. If I need something quick, I pay for exbidited shipping.

If USPS takes too long to get their order to you, blame Lance, not Nashbar.

lsd87 07-31-03 07:05 PM

I tried getting information via email from Nashbar before I ordered. Three weeks after my inquiry they sent me a notification that they were forwarding my message to someone else. That was 2 months ago....These guys have people problems...big time! Some good people and unfortunately lots of poor quality too. Try calling again and again until you get someone nice enough to help. I personally would only use them as a last resort in the future.

mightypudge 07-31-03 07:53 PM

I recently had the very same problem with Nashbar. I ordered a pump and it took three weeks to arrive. It also arrived poorly packaged and in terrible shape. I returned it the next day and have yet to be credited, although it arrived at Nashbar over a week ago. I am very disappointed so far.

tbobby 07-31-03 08:32 PM

I've ordered from Nashbar using both Fedex and USPS shipping and all orders have arrived precisely as promised. I can always find at least a 10% off coupon. It is a fantastic mail order company.

mrfix 08-01-03 05:22 AM

I stopped ordering from them because, although I got the stuff in short time, the packaging was awful, most items arrived damaged, the return act takes too long. I just order elsware now and never have any problems. Performance has poor packaging also. I find jensen, supergo, pricepoint and colorado all have good packaging and stuff arrives in tact and with no broken boxes. At first I blamed UPS, but after consistantly receiving damaged boxes just from nashbar and performance I decided to buy elsewhere, since the boxes arrive in good condition (always) now, what should I think. I have to think it has to do with the shipper and not the carrier,

In Nashbar's defense, this is the first problem I've ever had with them.

live311 08-01-03 11:56 AM

I placed an order with them yesterday for the first time and opted for the cheapest shipping. I'll let you know how it goes.

Orikal 08-01-03 02:50 PM

Yeah, just to be fair and give them another chance, I ordered something from them again yesterday but opted for 2nd Day Air. We'll see...:(

Paige 08-01-03 04:05 PM

Nashbar has always given me good service, Supergo on the other hand......

DRLski 06-14-06 08:34 AM

Nashbar Price hike?

Is it just me or does nashbar seem to be expensive now? They used to be one of my most inexpensive sources for equipment and now they're usually more expensive than other online retailers.
