It all depends when you visit the site. I've seen prices fluctuate $50 in one week.

TomM 06-14-06 08:03 PM

For the items I usually buy, I haven't seen much of a price increase.

barba 06-14-06 08:17 PM

I have noticed that their "sales" increasingly seem to just be pointing things out at the price they were anyway. The better deals seem to be unannounced.

When Nashbar and Supergo were bought by Performance, I had a premonition that Biking was somehow gonna get even more expensive as a hobby. Supergo has now been swallowed and digested by Performance (shut down) and you really don't notice a lot of difference, price and quality-wise between Performance and Nashbar items.

Yep, Nashbar items are really not the best deals on the Web anymore. In all fairness though, there are now many more competitors for performance/Nashbar than there were not too long ago.

I say to all cycling people, welcome to the "brave new world".

Last summer I picked up a few pairs of PI shorts at my LBS. When I got home, just for the hell of it, I checked the Nashbar price. To my astonishment...Nashbar was higher than the LBS.

K6-III 06-17-06 09:35 AM

I'd partially blame it on inflation as well...

古強者死神 06-19-06 01:15 AM

Nashbar may not be so expensive as I just see performance kicking there but and being cheap.

nashbar is still way cheaper than a LBS, but the performance prices are destroying them in most aspects and they have the .99$ shipping!

other places were trying to make me pay 13$ shiping for 7$ tires

spinnaker 06-29-06 03:47 PM

Hats off to Nashbar customer service and $.95 patch kits

I ordered a new Road Morph and a couple of other things. I realized I should have ordered some patch kits. I emailed Nashbar customer service and they said they were unable to add the kits to the order but that if I called they would allow me to order and waive the shipping charges. I callled to order today and found that the patch kits are only $.95. I ordered 5 of each type and they are sending them out free of shipping charges.

There is a special place in my heart for merchants like that.

Brate 06-29-06 03:54 PM

Im a big fan of Nashbar CS I ordered the wrong size shoes (crazy metric system and my poor math skills) and they took them back and refunded the purchase price no problem.

DO NOT BUY Nashbar ATB clipless pedals.

I bought these:
http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...eid=&pagename=

Either they suck, or they aren't actually SPD compatible even though they look like it.

Using SPD cleats you can clip in, but you can't clip out. Easily anyway. Even with the tension set all the way loose, I've fallen twice and nearly fallen I don't know how many times when I was barely able to get my foot out in time.

I have never had a single problem with my other bike, which has Performance Campus pedals which are SPD on one side.

BluesDawg 08-23-06 10:40 AM

Did you use the cleats that came with the pedals? Wellgo MTB pedals use a cleat very similar but not identical to SPD cleats.

+1.

I have these pedals. I use the cleats that came with them... they work great.

Siu Blue Wind 08-23-06 11:06 AM

ANOTHER nother reason not to use clipless.....................(I would kill myself on those things!)

same time 08-23-06 11:07 AM

"SPD Compatible" means the cleats are compatible with shoes that are drilled for SPD cleats, not that the pedals will work with Shimano SPD cleats. Maybe they didn't explain that very well to you.

Having said that, I don't see anywhere on the page where Nashbar claims these pedals are SPD Compatible.

Eggplant Jeff 08-23-06 11:09 AM

They must not be SPD compatible then. I'm not using the cleats that came with 'em, I'm using some standard SPD cleats... I use the same shoes on both bikes and I got the pedals for the other bike first.

How irritating. Want another pair Meldex?

As the others said, did you use the correct cleats? There are several very similar, but yet different enough to cause problems, SPD-type pedals/cleats. Even among the Nashbar SPD's, there is more than one type of cleat. As you may already know, the Nashbars and most of the other economical SPD knock-offs are made by Wellgo. I've had excellent luck with Wellgo-branded pedals, and the most common cleat the Wellgo brand pedals use is the Wellgo 98A (which some of the Nashbar pedals use too, and one of the "Nashbar brand" cleats Nashbar sells is actually a Wellgo 98A). And 98A's are completely compatible with pedals that use the Shimano SH51 single release cleats, btw-

No, I've ridden clipless for a year+ on my other bike and never had a single problem.

cuda2k 08-23-06 11:21 AM

Eggplant - I'm using the standard Shimano SPD cleats with these same pedals. They don't clip is as smoothly as they do on my Shimano M540 pedals, but they do work. Reducing the clip-in screw tightness to just shy of all the way out may help.

Eggplant Jeff 08-23-06 11:30 AM

I already tried 'em all the way loose. That's where they are right now. I also tried about 80% loose, and all the way tight (couldn't even clip in with 'em that tight). I'm going to replace them with actual SPD-cleat-compatible pedals.

DieselDan 08-23-06 11:41 AM

SPD-compatable refers to the cleat blot pattern. The other one is Look-compatable. SPD-R, Time, and Diadoria are all but obsolete.

No, it's another reason to shop carefully, and to understand what you've purchased and how to properly use it...OP said he's not using the cleats that came with the pedals, and I have to guess from the other comments that it is the source of the problem -- nothing inherent about being clipless. I note in the ad copy on the Nashbar page that they do not mention SPD anywhere. Simply "dual-sided" and "clipless". Caveat emptor...

Why don't you use the cleats that came with them, before dismissing them as bad quality.

krazygluon 08-23-06 12:48 PM

yeah...SPD compatible means the cleats that come with the pedals work with spd shoes...not that the pedals work with actual shimano spd cleats.

my eggbeaters are spd compatible, but I doubt any other spd cleats would work terribly well with them.
