That is pretty much what I think I would do. Your last line is a very good description of people in need of help. lol

It's tough to do, I have to pedle like hell and the rim makes an awful racket. Passing Lance I had to put just a few PSI in the tire just to hold it on the rim at those speeds.

Bikes: K-mart All-Pro brand road bike; Target cruising bike; Wal-Mart NEXT brand bike

Saw a fellow pushing a bike on Rte 143 near the Wood River Shop'n'Save grocery, about a month or so ago. Stopped and gave him an inflator canister with self-sealing stuff in it--sort of like fix-a-flat for bikes. So of course I never picked up a new canister. When my tire blew last week on a trail in Edwardsville several people asked if I was OK--but no one offered to help me. Not that there was any help to be given. I was riding my el cheapo thrift store bike and the tire that blew was probably the original tire it came with from K-Mart back in 1977. Even the fix-a-flat stuff would probably not have worked. Rim strip had turned to chewing gum and tire itself was dry rotted. As luck would have it I was a little less than two miles from The Cyclery, a LBS in Edwardsville. They changed the whole tire out. No biggie. I knew I'd have to change that tire out anyhow, eventually.
