I cannot add anything else to what has already been said except my thoughts and prayers go out to your friend, as well as to you. Be strong for her and be there for her. That's the best thing you can do to help her through this.
Take care,

Every lane is a bike lane
It's good to hear she's doing well. I seem to recall reading somewhere that sometimes the human mind deliberately blocks out the memory of the events leading up to a trauma, and that not remembering the event is not necessarily a sign of harm. In this case, it might even be for the best if she can't remember it.

Whew!
I checked back first thing, and it's good to hear she's already talking about getting on a bike again! Even if she can't ride again until next year, it will probably give her enough determination to get into the physical therapy and get herself well so she CAN get back on a bike. Let her talk about it- it may be the one thing that keeps her going, especially if the physical therapy gets frustrating at times....
I remember when I got hit by a car on my bike. Seriously, to this day, I don't remember anything. I was sitting there one minute at the stop sign, and the next minute, I was looking up at the sky, laying on the ground with people surrounding me. I was lucky, and so was your friend. Don't be surprised if she doesn't remember. Her injuries were much more serious than mine, but a concussion can do that stuff to your brain sometimes. It's been years since my accident, and no matter how hard I try, I cannot remember the events when I got hit. Good thing there were so many eye-witnesses in my case!
What happened with these MTB'ers? Were they the ones who called the ambulance? Are they being sought for causing this accident?
Again, keep us posted on her progress. Let her know there's a whole community of cyclist out there pulling for her and keeping our prayers and thoughts with her and her family.

It's NOT your fault! And my best wishes for your friend's recovery--maybe she'll be posting here about the dangers of bike paths sometime.

I'm glad your friend is doing better. When she does get on a bike again she might be really scared, so you'll have to be supportive and encouraging. The feelings will go away fast once she starts riding again, but it seems that little ghosties (doubts) follow for awhile wondering if it'll happen again.

When she's able you could get a bike trainer for her. That way she'll feel she's making progress and won't feel so out of touch with riding.

update:
seems like we're not quite out of the woods yet. here's an email i got today from jenny:
can i ask you to continue praying for my health and recovery? i just came home from spending the night in the er after running into some complications yesterday. thankfully, the ct scan shows that there is no additional bleeding and the fracture in my head is starting to heal. i have to admit that i'm in pain
though and i've been feeling pretty wretched. please pray that He would be
the very breath that i breathe and that He would be the author of my comfort
and healing.
