He must have been dead lucky with a good wind behind him!

Was that recently Stew! with this strong South West wind gale that has been blowing last few days?

27th September. Also around the same date a girlie (whoops! - lady) broke the end-to-end ladies record - Lynne Taylor. 2 days 5 hours 48 minutes

In both cases I can't figure out why they wait for autumn, with shortening daylight and high winds to make the attempt.

The lady rider was so exhausted from fighting headwinds she had to abandon the further attempt on 1000 mile record.

Lynn Taylor had an interesting web site which tracked her progress during the attempt. I wish I'd known about it at the time. Still makes interesting reading.
