titanium cage bolts?

I once hered a story about titanium cage bolts making the bike feel lighter, than regular steel bolts. Is that true?

(the cage that holds the water bottle) :D

Yes, it is true! For ten bucks they'll lighten your bike by 2 grams...

Here's a secret: Just fill your water bottle half-way.......that'll save you 200 grams.....

Me, I worry about corrosion on my Ti frame. AND IT'S TWO GRAMS! :D

I guess school must be out somewhere. If you ignore a troll long enough, he just goes away...

If you pick your nose before you leave you can save 2 grams too.

And if you have a cold, each pre-ride sneeze can save you up to a gram in unsuspended, non-rotational phlegm weight.

If this was a troll, and it certainly appears that way, then at least it was a fairly amusing one.

For the record, I estimate I fart more than two grams of gas on the average ride. Discharge a couple of lung oysters and I'm flying up them hills.

Weight weenies are funny.

Right..............

jeff williams 01-14-04 06:02 PM

remove the plastic caps from your Shraeder valves, gets me down to race weight.

SamDaBikinMan 01-14-04 06:15 PM

Fill your tires with helium!

Use purified water in the bottle to remove "heavy metals".

Don't put those little closure caps on the ends of cables.

Measure the exact chain length you need and not a link more.

Sew a flag holder into the chamios of your bike shorts and ride with no seat. just let the seat tube insert into the flag holder.

Chop every third tooth off your chainrings. It will still work ok.

Components do not need the little stickers or logo inserts that identify them, take them off.

Do not use handlebar tape. Just secure the cables with electrical tape and ride with padded gloves.

Polish all the paint off your frame as it is only added weight for appearance.

Last but not least, get rid of all barrel adjusters and just tune your bike after every ride using a wrench.

This will reduce the weight of your bike by about a pound. ;)

Dang!.....just ride a fixie. It'll already be 5 pounds lighter than anyone else's bike....

Wait a minute.... isn't fart gas lighter than air? So that means if you fart you gain weight right? :D

Mr Jerk 01-14-04 08:30 PM

I could prolly drop 5 pounds shaving my chest! :D

SamDaBikinMan you got some imagination.

Ditch the bottle cages and bolts altogether and stick the bottles in your jersey pockets.

Ditch the bottles too and stop at a 7-11 for a drink every now and then.

Fill your tires with helium.

Trim your brake and derailer cables right up to the clamp nuts.

If you use SPD pedals, remove the clips on one side.

Grind new brake pads down to half thickness.

Remove the rear brake altogether.

2 words,...........uni-cycle!

And lest we all forget... let us recall the lessons learned from this other thread.

Depends what you've been eating.

Then again, eating is a bad idea anyway. It only adds weight.

Sam, you forgot the most obvious weight saving device. Be sure to use your bumper dumper before every ride. :)
