Does anyone use an electric razor to shave your legs? I use an electric razor for my face, but have wondered how good they are for the legs.

Heah, I am not one to criticize the use of cyclists shaving legs. I am not really a racer so I have not been interested in this practice...And I am not critical of it. But..An observation.
Many I work with, in my presence, they are some what anti cyclist...And of course- border line homophobes.
But, I notice. When criticizing cyclists. They often bring up the practice of shaving legs...That is where they get their line that cyclists are all *****exuals...I will not use the words they use.?
I assured them, the tours I have been on- at camp at night. My sense was, it was a very hetro crowd.
Sorry to disappoint the homophobes. But, that is where the non-cycling crowd gets much of their prejudice vs.cyclists.That and they do not understand the nature of cycling gear.

I don't shave for aero dynamics. I shave my legs and arms because if you fall and have hair on your legs and arms, believe me from personal experience, it is more miserable to have hair, than not to.

The first fall I had, my elbows and knees were skinned really good. It was awefull having to try and get the dirt and gravel out with hair being there. The second fall I had, I had shaved and it was not nearly as bad.

So ya, it pays to shave, even if you don't race!

I knew a guy in college who would wear elbow pads and knee pads. It was the funniest thing to see everyone at the line sizing each other up. When they saw him their only goal was to stay way in front of him. In my expereince the outside of my thigh has gotton the worst of it. Nothing like sliding down the road on your side at 20+. The hair makes it hard to keep the wound from getting infected & it gets all caught up in the scab. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it.

I am like, people are going to think what they want no matter how much we try to persuade them. I don't give a crap what other guys think. I get misread by guys all the time as being gay because I am a metrosexual. But I am like, why should I care what they think? Ya, I used to be so homophobic and then I realized how stupid I was thinking that way. I have had girls come up to me and say how good my legs look. All that matters to me is what the opposite sex thinks!!!

Wow, with the homophobes! I could shave all the way up to my chin and would never be mistaken for *****exual. This is the funniest thing I have ever seen! BTW, I don't shave because I can't immagine all those ingrown hairs!

I do my initial spring denuding with an electric trimmer. Then I shave with a razor. I have started usinig a double blade old style razor as it does not shave quite as close and I don't have a problem with ingrown hairs.(This is only on my face so far, haven't started the legs yet this year) Once I have the hair off, I hit the shins daily with an old electric(Remington) and dress it up every two weeks with a razor again. This works pretty good for me. Less burn and cuts and it is much quicker.

Pletcgm...I never know what to respond to these homophobes..Seems, I hear this kind of thing quite frequently from uptight, beer drinking, couch potatoes.
The only thing I can say in reply is that seems to be something racer types do and it is functional... I have never had road rash that bad so this gives me some ammunition.
Of course, I do not want to suffer road rash that bad, so that I understand ingrown hair and infection...Still can't understand the connection because it would seem road rash would remove hair all the way up to the stubble.Ouch.\
And I hate such broad based generalizations..I do reply that from my experience cyclists reflect the general population as much as any other group.
I just thought it helpful to share such experiences , so that we can respond; if we so choose.

Funny, I had a beat-up pickup truck pull up beside me last year and the driver told me how queer I looked. I couldn't help but laugh when he said that. He wanted to know what was so funny. Most do! There are a few out there that think it is awefull looking for a man, but the majority think it looks great. I know that I get chicks staring at my legs a lot when I am in bars at night.

I thought people shaved their legs because if you fall off and scrape yourself, when the hair starts to grow back beneath the scab it will push it off helping the wound to heal quicker.

Or is it only for aerodynamics?

I'm sure you're in better health than they are and able to do things they probably secretly dream of being able to do, short of saying, "I'm gonna run you over with my ****** in my car", the safest thing for them to say is, "durrr... what a queer."

Like pro cyclists in Europe never drink beer! Actually, the tour de suisse is sponsored by a Swiss Brewery, so the winners instead of champagne, get to drink out of this huge stein of beer. I remember seeing Alex Zulle win a couple of years ago- I bet that beer tasted great, since it was very hot during the race.

As for legs, I as a female have been shaving many years, and I tried an electric leg shaver. I found I didn't like it - it sort of pulls the hairs and frankly, razors shave closer. So I use my Venus and lady shave cream.

Wabbit...No one is dising beer..I like a cool St. Pauli anyday...As we tend to generalize/categorize all types of human beings- we think that the type that drinks beer on the couch, throws potato chip wrappers on the floor, piles up beer bottles under the coffee table and throws them out once a month, throws beer bottles in the back of the truck; just might have a different type personality from a pro cyclists who has a six pack following a century.
Maybe one who throws empty beer bottles at cyclists from the window of a passing vehicle with a size 44 gut, might have a different outlook from those of us who do Michelob Ultra after a 115 mile ride.

Actually, I tried Nair for Men yesterday and it worked great on my arms, but it didn't do as good on my legs.

I use an electric shaver (one designed for legs, though it's looks like a normal face shaver) It works a treat. Every 5th day a 10minute buzz.

I'm not dissing beer either- which cyclist in their right mind would diss beer, which is ideal after a long ride on a hot day? Unless of course you can't drink for some reason. Yes, there are beer drinkers and then there are those who drink beer. I personally am not much of a drinker but i agree, on a hot day after a long ride...ahhhh!
