Tire Sizes

I just bought a bike, and it has 700x32c tires on it. I have no idea what those two measurements stand for, so I was hoping someone could explain that to me.

None of the measurements is likely to be precise.

700 refers to the outer diameter of the tire in millimeters.

32 refers to the width of the tire in millimeters.

c is a rim width measurement, like in shoes, but it also impacts the rim diameter. A d rim has a smaller diameter than a c rim.
