Expensive rubbish, largely.
"Mr. Smith, our test show that you have one of several genes which express themselves through endurance events. This means that you should be a cyclist."
"What about distance running?"
"Ah, yes, that too"
Or swimming?
"Ah, yes, that too"
Or race walking?
Ah yes...
Or high altitude climbing?
Etc., etc.
There are much easier and cheaper ways to test potential

Made for super-competitive yet insecure parents with lots of extra money to throw around.
After all, what kind of parent wants to be embarrassed by their child underachieving in a sport of the parent's choosing.
