Pics of your first ride...

Christmas is in the air, a time that lots of us received our first bikes... Mine was actually a Birthday present.

So, dig out the family album, snap a digital pic, or scan it into your computer, cause here's where you can share that first moment with your first ride.

Me on my first set of wheels, Hauula, Oahu, Hawaii '72

A few notes on the picture:
I know I don't have a helmet on. C'mon, get real, it was '72,
My bike didn't have lights, and didn't glow in the dark.
BTW, My Grandfather made the rocking horse, and I think that it's still in the family.

When asked, my Mom admitted that she had no idea what was started when I received that bike.

Rubberside Down! (memory lane)

Nice picture. Reminds me of my son when he was that age. You must be about his age. He was born in 1967 and is still riding his bike.

Damn, I had a rocking horse just like that. For years my father made a point of taking my picture on it, right up through college graduation.

No pics available. Mine was a VERY old chain drive kids tricycle, I suspect made in the 20s or 30s. All steel, including the unpadded seat. Not even much paint left on anything so no idea of brand.

Bikes: like 15. my favorite a 1951 schwinn spitfire cruiser. also have a 1959 amf roadmaster, 1962 jch deluxe cruiser among others.

when i learn how to transfer an old picture into something into my computer (scanner, santa?) i will post it. for now, it was 1982 ST BMX 20" bmx discount bike. it was black with red steel mags and red cushion protectors on the toptube, down tube, handlebar stem and top bar on the bmx handlebars (yet no helmet... thanks mom). had that bike and rode the heck out of it for the next 12 years when a quack of a bike mechanic told me it was D.O.A. (yet all it needed was a new set of bb bearings, thats it!) wish i still had that bike.

Christmas 1967! It was a blue Schwinn Stingray that dad had bought from a rental outfit. Took me a while to get the hang of it, but I've never stopped riding. The Stingray became a BMX bike before the term was invented. The frame broke when I was 15. The parts were scattered to the wind, including a half-assed attempt to make a Varsity into a mountain bike before that term was invented.

I'll have to dig out pictures. Godspeed A23817, wherever you are.
