Does anyone else take their dog whith them while riding? I carry my min-pin on my back in a pet pocket.

Ah, heh, I was hoping for a picture of your pup doing a ride-a-long. I saw someone in Cambridge carrying her Maltese in a courier bag... the little guy was a content as could be.

Nope, but the other day I did see a family out on the trail with a fox terrier riding in Mom's pannier. Fun.

I saw a guy cruisin down the highway on a hog with a dog layed out on the gas tank. That would have been a picture. But anyway I don't have a dog anymore and my cats would disown me if I tried a stunt like that

This reminds me of a guy that I saw carrying his dog while riding trough nyc traffic, I pulled up to him and told him that I've now seen everything....lol

I used to have a small-med spitz-lab cross that rode in my pannier. I put a towel in the bottom of the bag and then buckled the dog in so that his head and one paw stuck out. He loved to go for rides w/ me!

I had another friend who mounted a piece of plywood covered w/ a piece of carpet to the top of his rack for a larger dog. The dog would dig her nails into the carpet and hang on. She leaned into the turns and handled bumps and everything!

Maybe was me. Was he carrying german shephard on shoulders crossing Brooklyn bridge? If so, was me.

I have seen a dog pulling a bike. There was a bar attached near the rear end of the chainstay, pointing down, The leash was clipped to the bottom end of this bar. Since the dog was pulling at the rear wheel, it wouldnt affect the steering if he pulled sideways.

Heh, man, I hope the dog never got spooked or excited about a squirral or anything I can only imagine what it feels like to have a dog pull the rear wheel sideways!... or backwards...

There's actually a commercial product like this for riding with a leashed dog trotting beside. I'm not sure it's designed so much for the the dog to actually pull; it's more like so the dog can't run off....

On the lakeside bike path last summer, we passed an aging gay couple on a pair of old English three-speeds. The fellow in front had a woven handlebar basket. As I passed I saw a long-haired little yapper-dog (but not yapping) in the basket. Of course I did a double-take, at which time I saw a second dog, almost identical, in the same basket. They were just lookin' around, taking it all in on a pleasant evening. One of those wonderful, oddball moments that say "only in Madison".

Carrying a dog along sounds interesting but my pair, Sunny (85 pound pointer mix & Cher 75 pound Yellow Lab) are so big I will need to come up with a way for them to assist in propulsion. Maybe some kind of treadmill tandem? Don

Well, I recall seeing a guy on a multiday tour who had what looked like a Jack Russel Terrier who rode in a do-it-yourself dog seat over the rear wheel. The dog did seemed to do fine. The mileages were up pretty high too over 70 miles per day. When the guy stopped for a pit stop, he and the dog drank, ate a snack and took a pit stop as needed.

No, it was midtown Manhattan, and while I’m not sure what type of dog it was, I’m fairly sure that it wasn't a german shepherd.

We have a little front pack - similar to an aviator pack for babies - that we've used for our Papillon (who weighs a whopping 8 lbs). I've only used it casually riding with the family on my hybrid - never with my road bike where I'm more focussed on a workout and distance.

I would like to take my dog along..
But... he is a 68lb golden retriever!!! any sugestions?

I see a guy some mornings while I am out riding who carries his dog in a canvas handlebar mounted carrier on an old fashioned 'sit up and beg' type of bike.

The hound is some sort of a corgi cross. He lets the dog out for a run along the footpath just out of the city centre.

Min-pin = miniature pincher. The most annoying little dog on earth.

I have a 70 pound Pit Bull that loves to ride in my truck. He would probably also love riding on my bike if I could figure out how to carry him. Maybe a trailer?
