Component Weights

Picked up a nice steel/carbon racing frame with a mixture of components on it. I'd like to replace the components with an eye toward getting the lightest stuff I can.

Is there a website or two that might have charts or comparisons on component weights?

Thanks

Keith

Some of the retailers have pretty good information on weights. The only database of weights I know of is weightweenies.starbike.com and it's far from complete, but has a lot of stuff on it.

Thanks for the hint! I'll check out that website.

I'm not going to get nutso about weight but if I can build up the bike with good stuff and save ounces here and there - It'll be fun.

When you start looking at weight- Groupsets will not vary a great deal and with wheels- a good saving can be had over stock wheels.

But incidentals like Seat post- Saddle- Bars and stem will have a wide variation in weight. And incidentally will tyres.

The greatest weight saving might be in your wallet. You can spend a ton of money and still not lighten your bike enough to brag about.

Without a doubt - you are correct!!

But, as my wife says...........I've got more money than sense and if it keeps me out of trouble-go for it!

Always been a tinkerer, used to own a shop and build classic Italian stuff and didn't start really riding again until about 4/5 months ago and JUST CAN'T RESIST trying the latest and the greatest.

I would start by just checking out the stuff the pro's are using this year and compare from there.

Don't forget about all the weight you can save by drilling holes.

What, no mention of drilling out water bottles? That alone is good for over two pounds.

Most bike shops keep a scale behind the counter.

The first time the guy at one of the LBS's pulled one out, I was unable to stop giggling.
