How do I help them get me a Brooks?

Short version: What do I tell those people who tell me I'm hard to shop for to get me a Brooks saddle for my upcoming birthday when I'm not sure which one would be right for me? Besides the obvious gift card?

Long version: My birthday is in another month, and this year I'd like to tell those people who tell me I'm so hard to shop for to get me a Brooks saddle for my birthday. Problem is, I'm not sure which one would be right for me. I'm currently using this saddle on a commuterized Hardrock, and it's reminding me too much of the stock saddle on my last BMW motorcycle when it starts feeling like that burning a**plank of death after about 45 minutes. It's still way more comfortable than the Corbin saddle I had on my first motorcycle though. I'm looking for something that's going to be more comfortable for longer, and figure one of the Brooks should do the job. Advice?

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

Which saddle are you using? The page you link to has several.

I'm guessing this is for on-road commuting? When in doubt, it's hard to go wrong with a B-17. What physical bits of the saddle itself do you dislike in particular about your current saddle?

1) B-17

2) unless you like saddles with springs (heavier)

3) one with titanium rails if the weight of a B-17 scares you silly

Bikes: Many

Hint strongly for a B17 from the place that offers a liberal return policy (is it wallbike.com?)

It's the BG Comfort saddle, and about a block of my usual commute is on pavement. The current saddle become painful under the "sitbones" as I sink into the padding.

You say, "You know, I don't want to be pushy, but I know you'll be getting me a present and there's something I really want. It's a little expensive, but this would be perfect."
Then hand them a picture of a B-17.

You tell them where to buy it and give them an item number. Email it to them so they can click on the link and buy it.

Otherwise, they go to the store, tell the clerk, "We need a Brooks B17", he says, "We don't have that, but we have the Acme Pokey Brick saddle that's just as good and $50 cheaper" and there you go.

That's what I think too.

"If you don't ask for steak medium rare, you're gonna get it well done.
If you don't ask for a room with a view, you're never gonna see the sun.

And when you ask for the things you want, ask for it loud and clear.
"Cause if you don't ask for Dad's, all you're gonna get is root beer."

Have them get you one from Wallingford Cycles in New Orleans (wallbike.com). They have a very generous exchange and satisfaction policy.

be aware that the b17 comes in two widths. Using the specialized butt width measuring thing, we picked a Toupe in a 143 width. On my touring bike, I wanted a B17, and on my first tour I found that the standard width brooks felt too wide for me. The edges of the seat felt sharp. On my latest touring bike I went with the Brooks B17N (narrow) and really like this.

Or if you are still unsure, simply ask them to get you a gift card for $100 at a place that sells them (either online or physical store). That should cover it.
