hi everyone! i am a new bike fan. i don't know anything about them, and i would really really appreciate some advice. i have a pretty old mountain bike, give or take 10 years old. i really want to salvage it, and having no idea where to start and what to look for, i dismantled to whole thing. all thats left is the chassis, which is slightly rusted.
1. is it salvageble? or will it help if i post pictures of it?
2. it is a pretty old bike, so it does not have springs or dampers. can i install some?
3. is there any specific part to install or take away? i want to go touring with it one day and i want to make it as light as possible.
4. is it worth all the effort? or do i just buy a new bike?
5. anuthing else i must know?

that about it. thx a bunch! oh and i live in malaysia, where it's hot and humid. any specific bike caring tips?

1. Any bike is salvageable - it's a matter of cost. Yes - we need pictures to see what needs help.
2. Your question is not applicable with your former question. WAIT. Springs are not on the radar now.
3. Want to help it right now? Put in new cables and housing so you can change gears and stop.
4. We can't answer that without pictures and and a specific use you wish to use it for.
5. Must know? No - but there is a warehouse full of information to absorb.

Get back to us with some pictures. Look around these forums to see how to photograph a bicycle correctly - and helpfully.

Say 'Hi!" to Malaysia for me.
