Trail Sentinels?

This is a program I found in an adjacent county. They train volunteers in basic first aid, bike repair, bike patrol and other such things. The volunteers work in conjunction with local EMS and law enforcement to ride the bike trails. The volunteers provide an extra set of eyes, note trail conditions, enforce park/trail rules and provide basic first aid and bike repair.

Anybody have something like this? Any thoughts on starting something?

New Haven, CT has Downtown Ambassadors on bikes. They have info, tourist guides, student guides and some basic first aid stuff in panniers. They just ride around looking for people who look lost or may be bleeding, I guess.

In nyc bikers always welcome visitors with welcoming words when they are standing in the middle of the bike lane. I wont' even write it, use your imagination. The european tourists know better they are used to people biking in their crowded cities, and if they get caught in front of biker they are truely embarassed, because they know they should know better. But the most american tourons just freeze and stare with a look of pure fright and confusion. On the other hand, native nyc'ers are often very kind and helpfull to tourists in need. Just adapt.. quick.

Found out we do have something similar. It's really not anywhere near my original post though. Just a set of eyes and nothing to distinguish them. Also sounds like there are some leadership issues going on and a backlog of volunteers.
