Choosing the right frame size

I am a beginner biker and want to buy my first road bike. My height is 5'9" and inseam is 33". Only based on my inseam size, the bike store advised me to get a 54cm frame of road bike. I was told by my biker friends that 54cm frame might be too big for my height. I'll will be happy to hear any advice.

FWIW I'm going to get a proper fitting when I buy my next bike, similar to what these guys offer https://alteregosports.com/page.cfm?pageId=455
