I contacted several fast food conglomerates with this exact question, and got the standard 'liability' answer from all of them.
My local bank, with whom I no longer deal, was the ONLY place in town that was accepting of my bike in the drive-thru. No Walgreens, no fast-food, nuttin'.
Heck, Walgreens isn't even bike-friendly; not a bike rack to be seen! I usually use the handicapped parking sign right by the door, on the RARE occasion when I do ride to WG.

The local Walgreens has a bike rack right by the front door, but it's close enough to walk to that I walk to it on the rare occasion I go there. It's pretty rare that I see anyone use the drive through there.

This doesn't shed any real light on the situation, it's kind of equivalent to a "it's just those cagers" comment.

So how does refusing to serve cyclists and pedestrians prevent the would-be robber? He can still sneak up to the window late at night and commit the robbery. The store isn't preventing the cyclist/ped from getting to the window - they're just refusing to serve them once they do get there. Seems like that is only an inconvenience to the legitimate customer who was hoping to be served (and pay for it). The robber wouldn't be inconvenienced at all.
For cars and truck, drivers would have a problem opening the door and getting out at the window. So little risk there.
Pedestrians and cyclist could order food and once the window is opened, easily hold the window open and get through it. That has happened before. The counter point to the store that refuses service on this basis, is do they provide service to motorcyclist who could easily do the same tactic. If so, then they should at least service cyclist.

I was in a drive thru the other day and I notice a sign that said no bikes or foot traffic

Not sure if people have heard about this
Happened in Portland where a woman was turned away from a local burger restaurant that is known for being "green" and sustainable. They also turned away a bicyclist from their drive up window. She blogged about it and got the local paper interested. You just don't do that here in Portland and claim to be "green".

I used to work at McDonald's. One day I asked my manager if anybody ever walked up to the drivethrough. She said, "It doesn't happen very often. We're not supposed to serve anyone if they aren't in a car. One time someone rode a horse up to the window, and we broke the rule".

Not that this applies to all Walgreens, but I work third shift at one in Cincinnati. I asked our pharmacist that works at night and he said he would serve a cyclist because they are customers too and we would like their money.
