Problems with clipless pedals and big shoes?

I am looking into getting clipless pedals for the road bike and maybe eventually the MTB. I have heard brief mention, but not a lot of talk about problems with the spindles on clipless pedals not being large enough to work with big shoes. I wear a size 12 shoe and my feet are wide enough to limit my options with shoes, but not wide enough to require extra width shoes. Will I have a problem with my shoes rubbing against the cranks?

To get a little more specific, I am probably going to get Chromoly Speedplay Zeros. I am in college and money is a concern, but my knees aren't great and I want a reasonable amount of float. Will I have problems with the Speedplays?

As long as I am at it, can someone recommend a pair of road shoes for me? Something that I can get in size 12 that runs a bit wide. My budget for shoes is around $100, but that is a bit flexible (doesnt mean $200+ though).

Thanks.

I have the same problem, wide feet. My Pearl-Izumi shoes used to rub the cranks. I tried to position my cleats (Look) as far inward as possible but still experienced some rubbing. Since I put a 3 mm washer between the pedal and the crank the problem is mostly gone. It's probably not the best solution but it is cheap and it works.

Only one other person with big feet here? I am not that much of a freak, am I? If you have big feet and have had problems or everything has worked fine let me know. Thanks.

I use BeBops, with a pair of Sidi Dominator 4 Mega's. The Mega denotes a wider shoe.

I have no problems with the inside of my shoe touching the spindle.
