Than at a certain moment I levelled my saddle because I thought what the heck - perfectly level - Still feel a tiny bit of pressure in the perineum area but only the day after and while seating in my car..! In fact I am willing to keep it that way - had terrible pressure issues in the taint area that's almost gone. May try another saddle though next season or try the Selle Italie again - level that is...
The SMP has to be level at least. I use a long level to make sure after and adjustment. My stock road saddle has to be just a touch down in the nose.

the angle of the seat does make a difference on both your bottom and your wrists, so it is an important adjustment. I have a great seat on a very casual bike that I liked so much i bought a second one when I got a CX bike this fall. The seat that came on my Motobecane Fantom CX was hard as a rock and too skinny. I picked up a second Serfas Reactive Gel and I'm riding 14 miles at a time with no discomfort, pain, etc.

Lots of good advise on the forum!

Charlatan,

The similarities between us are pretty eerie, in terms of bicycles and size. I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam and ride a GF Arc Super. Here the similarities end because I'm on a 53cm, so I guess we're not mirror-images after all.

I'm not sure, but I think we have the same saddle. If so, I say just keep at it. I also experienced the same exact pains you describe, sometimes the boys even got a little numb. Not good! Unfortunately, I've done so much tweaking here and there in terms of saddle height and angle that I couldn't tell you what will work for you. I can, however, say that I can't believe that the same saddle in the beginning of the season was the cause of so much pain. I'm not going to say that it feels comfortable, rather I just don't feel it at all really. Your butt really does toughen up. As suggested above, a pair of good shorts is something to seriously think about if you are planning to continue riding. (I wish I could say that that will be your final cycling purchase.) Lots of good advise in this thread.

My advice to you, my semi-doppelganger, is keep tweaking and riding. I'm confident that after a while, you'll be riding hours without pain and discomfort.
