Rack on Jeep Cherokee

I would like to use a bike rack on my old Jeep Cherokee. The rear hatch is fabricated from fiberglass composite (?) or something else that is not metal. I bought a bike rack - the kind that uses straps and clips. The directions with the rack said to use it only on metal trunks and hatches.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Are there racks that are appropriate for installation on non metallic hatches or trunks?

Hello. no I never encountered or heard of that. I remember a few ye... well some time ago attaching a rack to my Celeberty wagon via putting the upper straps on the roof rack instead of the lift gate. you don't have a spare or hitch? what about inside?

I have a Cherokee and am under the impression that I have a metal tale gate but no matter. I use a regular bike rack on mine all the time. It's a fancy one (Thule I think) that is designed to go on hatch-backs, wagons and SUVs. It works the nads. Only thing is that I have to remove the whole thing to use the hatch.
