I found the Pearl Izumi Pro Short to be pretty good at concealing the goods. If these are out of your price range just look for shorts that are a little thicker. The real thin shiny materials leave nothing to the imagination. Oh and stick to dark colors, preferably black, have seen some riders in white shorts and it is not a pretty sight.

Come on. We are male, and we have marbles...or eggs... or grapefruits...or whatever. Shorts will reveal to some degree what we have, although from my perspective they tend to hide things more than reveal them. Yes, they are tight, and therefore reveal more than wind pants. But it is okay to be who we are. I say wear them with pride.

While I'm sure there are many here that go "Commando", I wear padded cycling underwear under my padded cycling shorts, every time I ride. If you build up a nice wardrobe of different shorts (mountain & road) and optionally, bibs, you'll eventually find yourself mixing and matching your two layers for different levels of comfort, warmth, etc. based on your expectations of the ride you'll be doing. It's also possible that the two layers will diminish the definition of your frank and beans when you choose the more form-fitting options.

It happens, you just have to roll with it. I used to wear athletic shorts over my bibs too until I realized how absolutely ridiculous I looked in a cycling jersey with baggy shorts. Hell, if you're in the right shape for it, what's the big deal?

Don't know if anyone else has suggested this, and I'm not going to read 30-odd posts on shorts to find out, but if not: Mountain bike shorts. I've worn them for 15 years. They look like regular street shorts and for me, at least, are just as comfortable as Lycra. Or you could wear padded bike undershorts (Andiamo and PearlIzumi are two brands) under street shorts.

I saw a middle-aged bald guy (like me) in tights and a purple cycling jacket. The jacket had a tight waistband and the bottom of the jacket splayed out like a skirt. He looked like a little bald-headed fairy. I almost busted out laughing. Don't people have mirrors in their houses anymore? I could have got my a$$ whooped by a little bone-headed bimbo.
