having recently commited to use my bike to cycle the commute to work, i took it in for a tune up, has not been used in a few years, the tech thinks i might need a bigger frame,

i am 5'9" with 29" inside leg measurement, the bike ( a hybrid giant cypress sx) has a 17" frame

i have never previouly spend more than 30 mins at a time on this bike so could not say if longer distances will casue aches and pains

having researced a tad this weekend on line i see a wealth of confusing advice regarding bike sizing

i guess the answer is to ride it and see if am crippled after a few months of doing the daily commute
which incidentally is about 22 kms each way

thoughts? and thanks for reading this far, i know this kind of question must bug the more experienced riders

I am 5'7". I ride a 17" Trek. It is a little on the small side for me, but I prefer a smaller frame. Not sure how any of that affects your situation tho.

Rivendell has some information on bike sizing. www.rivbike.com Grant Peterson's opinions are not the consensus, but I've found his advice very helpful. Your local bike shop may or may not be the best place for fitting advice; a lot of people are sold ill fitting bikes. Also, a small frame can be made to fit with a longer seatpost, and a taller stem.
