Question regarding BikesDirect Website

Hello all from Alpharetta Ga. I have recently caught the Bike riding bug and about ready to make a purchase. Renting and borrowing has reached its limits.

My Question: Can anyone respond with either Positive or Negative reviews after a purchase VIA BikesDirect? Also, both a real E mail address along with a valid phone number of BikesDirect to reach them would clear up some grey areas.

Here’s my current take on them:
From what I saw on BikesDirect; it looked too good to be true. Great prices along with better than average Shimano components on Bikes well under $1k. Free shipping to top it all off? Somethings got to give. No working phone number, AOL Email addresses for business operations, and that ”Its My way or the Highway” protocol for any problems you may incur with your purchase may keep most of us Internet shoppers away.

There's probably a thousand threads on this topic. FWIW, between my wife and I we have 4 BD bikes. But do a search, there's lots to consider.

Agreed. Their model is to sell it and ship it. If you're looking for any kind of support you're best off with a local bike shop (LBS). At the minimum you'll need bike assembly knowledge, and should you need warranty support it's not a simple experience.

I own one of their bikes. I'd never own another.

Bikes: 2010 Felt F5, 2010 Dawes SST-AL

i recently bought a BD bike. (Dawes SST-AL) No complaints here, shipping was remarkably fast and the bike was as expected. I dont know what else to tell you about it, what you see is what you get. IMO, the price difference will make up for a couple of major-ish repairs that the LBS might have given you for free.

I'd do it again, and probably will when I decide to get a cross bike or upgrade my roadie.

Thanks for your input on Bikes Direct

I am going to take a chance with BikesDirect. As far as minor repair, tweaking the bike;Done it already on 10 Bike I have borrowed. Not a problem. Just getting the Bike here in one piece is my only concern. I can't get a Processor on the phone as just a test to see if they are legit. If you all say they do ship the Bikes, then I will try it -
Thanks

Welcome George.
Many folks here have bought bikes from BD and are very happy. They were a advertiser on BikeForums at one time and may still be (??).
After you get the bike, stop by the Southeast Regional subforum (Atlanta thread) with pics of the bike.
