almost backed into a roadie tonight...

went out to grab some food tonight, it was well past dark... probably about 9pm

Backed out of my driveway and stopped just short of the end. Didnt see any cars coming but happened to stop. As I was about to go again, all of the sudden I see a guy on a bike... no headlamp, no blinky... nothing. wtf. I live on a dark semi-rural road, no street lights. who thinks its a good idea to ride at night with no lights? glad that some strange sense told me to stop instead of just rip out of my driveway since I didnt see headlamps... would have been a big time buzzkill....

Good thing you didn't hit him cause the cyclist is always right, even when he's wrong.

This backout situation actually happened to me, except it was in broad daylight and the car backed out at the last second. Not too much damage to me, but the teen driving the car was pretty scared that she killed me. Should have played dead and watched what happened.

I am always weary of people backing out of their driveway, even if they see me i am never confident that they will yeild. My father in law gives me crap for being so defensive about it & likes to remind me that I have the right of way... thats not quite good enough.

All of that said, I would NEVER ride at night without lights. I know it would have been "my fault" if I had hit him and I would have felt terrible about it... but I was pretty annoyed that he was out there with no lights. If I'd had the opportunity, I would have chewed on him for it.
