seniors driving

I think more focus needs to be on the younger drivers than the senoirs. Young drivers under the age of 25 are actually involved in twice the number of fatal traffic accidents than any other age group. It's actually the number one cause of death in that age group.

About 12 years ago I bought a very low mileage 1977 Chevy Belair sedan from the 'little old lady who drove it on Sunday to church and to the grocery store'. It was a great car to drive the 30 or so miles to my first teaching job in a small, rural school. The car had some interesting, minor body damage however. On the passenger side front edge of the hood was a dent about 5 inches across. Interestingly, there was no damage to the grill or bumper below this dent. If you stood in front of the car and leaned your hip into the dent, it would fit perfectly. Not surprising since the dent came from the hip of a pedestrian the previous owner, an 85 year old woman, had hit in a cross walk. After hitting this pedestrian in a crosswalk, she was allowed to retain her license and to continue driving. The passenger front fender and door were also scraped and creased. That damage was from the cyclist she hit 3 months later. After hitting this second person, her license was finally revoked.
