Randomly sore legs?

I finally fixed my old Schwinn Trailway to use for getting to campus and back (10km each way), and now my legs are sore. What gives? I've been cycling for 2 years, and often go on a 100km 500m ride, so it's not my legs being weak or anything.

I was thinking it was fit related. My knees are over the ball of my foot at 3 o'clock, and my leg is nearly extended at the bottom of the pedal stroke. I matched the fit of my other bike as close as possible.

The only other thing I can think of is I didn't wear my normal shoes. I wore a pair of converse instead. They're not very stiff. I did about 8km on my regular bike to test them out over the weekend though, and they seemed fine.

The soreness is in my calves. It started rather gradually, slowly getting worse as my ride went on. I did run this morning, and I don't normally ride after I run, I usually do it the other way around.

Anyway, any ideas? Have you experienced random soreness riding a bike you don't normally ride?

Thanks!

Oh, and I took it really easy (~14mph with the wind at my back), as I was testing out a new rack to hold my backpack. It only catapulted the pack once...
