Remove helmet visor for road biking and attach for MTB?

I've noticed that road bikers in general don't use/remove the little helmet visors, and MTB bikers keep them on. Is this standard practice?

Would other road bikers laugh at me if I leave my Giro helmet visor attached?!

Personally I hate the things. Off for the road bike and the hybrid. However some people like them.
Whatever works for you.

I see plenty of recreational riders on the road with visors. I think it's more what works for you?

I ride road and MTB. I tired the visor on my MTB but since I'm nearly busting a lung while climbing the steep sections, I have my head tilted slightly down and I can't see ahead. So even on MTB, I prefer to have it removed.

I don't ride offroad, and leave my visor on all the time. It keeps the rain off my glasses (kind of) and helps with the sun at certain times of the day.

It can be a major help in light fog. If I keep my head down a bit the top of my glasses don't get hit by fog particles, giving me a clear band above the blur to see fine details by if I need to.

The rule is to not use a visor. Or is that do use a visor. I can't remember. I use a visor and ride on the road but would not qualify as a "Roadie". My mirror lives on my visor.
If you're worried about people laughing at you.....................they're laughing with you.

It's very helpful when riding into the sun at certain angles and helps a bit to keep the rain out of your face (as I learned yesterday).

i ride mtn and road, kept it on for a while but took it off recently. it helped with the sun and with hiding the distance to the top of a hill. but off is better on my neck.

I wear a visor while riding on the road, but that's the least of my worries. Darn bird...

FYI, the reason roadies don't use them is because, assuming you've got a typical roadie saddle/bar drop, your vision's obstructed with the visor on and you really have to crane your neck to see where you're going. In comparison, a mtb is pretty upright.

Bikes: are fun to ride

If a helmet came with a visor, I'd keep it on. It's functional, I ride mainly mtb and I'm not a slave to fashion.

Why not? Don't you live in NV or someplace sunny like that? Criminy, ever since the late '70's there hasn't been an ozone layer worth bragging about. Cataracts are a near certainty for unprotected eyes that spend significant time outdoors.

These are the questions that "10 Wheels" has been waiting six years to be asked. Great work!

He'd respond, but in the 6+ years since he made that post he's gone blind.

I am truly sorry, but I am not understanding how this thread got bumped up to page one! I don't go looking for zombie threads to bump. I really don't.

I have a road helmet without and a MTB helmet with a vision. It's hard enough seeing beyond the helmet in the drops I don't want another couple of inches I have to try to get my neck bent enough to see under. For me though it's more of what bike I'm riding as I use my MTB helmet on rides that a on mix of gravel and paved roads but I'm on a bike with riser bars.

Not sure.. my cycling cap brim would probably obstruct seeing that visor thingy. Anyone test those visors? They appear to me like potential shattering bits in an accident waiting to drive thru your eyeball.

I ride with the visor and it does help keep the sun out at times, I also never thought to take the visor

Many people do what they do because they read some internet rule or were told something ridiculous by the LBS.

I like visors, so I ride with them, period. The minimal extra amount I have to raise my head from the drops is inconsequential for my cycling.
