Thigh workout is good, hamstring is not

I get a great thigh workout but my hamstrings don't get hit like I'd want. Any advice? A few things that I'm thinking are:

- I may be mashing too much and not spinning enough
- I'm not emphasizing pulling on the pedals enough to engage the hammies

Thoughts?

Cycling is great for the quads and calves. Not so much for the hamstrings. I use various strength training exercises to strengthen my hamstrings.

OK that's good news... Any way to max the hamstring involvement though to get the most that I can?

I believe they are engaged more in the upstroke if you are using clips or clipless pedals.

I feel you are right. I use toe cages and do what I can to use the entire stroke but at times I have to force myself to remember.
