Okay Ebay detectives, look at this

https://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...rows=50&sort=3

Old auctions list the seller is Coeburn, Virginia. I've been there, and doubt there are that many hi-end bikes in the whole of Wise County... no slouch on Wise, it's beautiful and the folks are great... now the seller is in London? Dig the way around the "reserve price". Huh.

this guy could be doing alot of things, possibly selling to himself w/ 2 ebay ids. He could be trying to boost his rating, or get fake feedback, for future scams.

by the number of them sounds like boosting feedback. I know one of my friends boosted his rating to 15 artificially like this just so he wouldnt have to explain himself to all of those "any feedback under x bids will be ignored, explain to me why you are interested before bidding" auctions....I thought it was somewhat shady, but oh well, each to their own. he could have just bought tons of cheap one to two buck crap, or smal parts.

I was thinking of buying extra components for my Trek just to get my rating up...the guy hasnt sold them for ages, so I might be able to strike a deal on his NOS parts.

No pictures? If I had the $$ to be in postition to post $3000 bikes for $1.00, I think I would own a digital camera. What are you looking for I might have something.

P.S. My rating is 100% from only two items but I will still try to satisfy anyone that buys something from me.

no, not because of the question. i asked him a question about his auction (a trek 5900 superlight) and he told me all this stuff and then tried to give me a sweet sweet deal on it but would only accept a western union money transfer before he sent the bike. so that's a load of crap and there's no reason for him to be that shady unless he actually is a scammer. and if you read about the scams that are out there, western union money transfer is the prime scam.

Exactly. fifty dollar camera and ten minutes computer jiggling will produce an Ebay worthy picture. Or a scammer worth his salt would swipe one from another site.

I only do PayPal, there is probably a way to scam it, but so far it seems the best method short of face to face and the passing of the green.

I found this bike for sale. Supposedly, Yuri Popovych's Colnago.

A couple of curious things. The seller shows as in New Zealand yet his listings show him in the Ukraine. He is selling other parts and stuff for what would be chump change for a scammer.

I did receive a canned reply which he sends out to all inquiries. "Buy it now, no PayPal, bla, bla, bla".....
... He's also no longer a registered user the last time I checked.

Number 1 user tip for Ebay: If you don't have a good gut feeling about it, don't bid. You'll probably find another good deal soon enough unless it really is a scam.

They're back, under their third (stolen?) id in the last forty-eight hours. Current id:
secom-cycle1228

Guess they're hoping to pull a holiday scam or two off.

My response to this email...

Hello-

Ok, yes, yes... I like this deal very much! I want to
add another question my friend. Besides the bike I
want to buy I would like to buy one for a very sick
and ill friend who has not long to live. It is their
dream to get to ride a high quality bicycle before
they depart the earth and this life. I want to
provide them with this 'dream-come-true' before they
go to heaven.

If I were to purchase this 'dream-bike' from you could
you promise me that you give them a great deal, a
great bike and delivery as soon as possible as their
medical condition is getting worse each and everyday.
They need the bicycle very soon or it will be too late
for them.

They would need a Trek 520 in size 72cm... they are
quite tall. Can you -PLEASE- make this wish & dream
come true?? I beg you.

Please let me know-as soon as possible- the details so
that I can purchase both bicycles immediately. I am
ready to buy both bicycles right now. You are truly,
truly a great person if you can make this wish come
true for this very sick and very wonderful friend.

Thank you in advance-

-Scott

A crock of BS to pull at their heartstrings as well as a size that the Trek 520 has never and will never be available in... or for that matter ANY bike.

Their response...

Hello

We will give the Trek 520 for US$300 for your friend.

First you have to buy your bike and after the deal is finish with your bike we will ship the Trek 520 bike to your friend.

You can arrange payment in cash transfer because if you will use the bank transfer option it will take more than 7 days the money to be confirmed in our account. This delay is because we have to sort payments in our bank account and after that the orders will be processed. Cash transfer will take maximum 2 hours the order to be processed. You can use Western Union service because it is a fast and easy service for cash transfer. We receive payment in few minutes this way. You will have to go with payment cash at a Western Union office and send it to our agent. In 24 hours after you will make payment, we will ship the bike and we will give you the tracking number.

Please email us before going to Western Union and we will give you our agent full name and address here in London where you have to send payment. After you will send payment, you will email us the details from the receipt, and our agent will go to Western Union office to collect payment. After that we will process your order.

The Western Union fee is around 8% of the amount. We will pay the shipment costs and the shipment insurance costs and we hope that you will support the Western Union fee.

Agreed, of course they would be as PP needs a CC or bank account to be authenticated and that creates a paper trail... precisely what a Con Artist doesn't want to leave in their wake.

I tried selling my Mavic CXP 30 clincher wheelset at www.mec.com, and this lady Mrs. Robinson emailed me that she was interested,, ask me to give details about the bike, (I am not selling a bike) then she asked me what my last price, I replied that my last price was $300.00, she replied that she will buy it for $450.00, becuase she has some money that is due her and the money is about $5,000.00, and all I have to do is send $4,000.00 back to her because she is in Greece and I have to send it thru Western UnioN. As soon as I got those email, I told her sorry I sold the wheels already, end of story.
