Leather tape
Didn't know where to post this, so if this isn't the right place, let me know.
Anyways, I have a bike with leather Bates handleba tape, and rainy season is coming to Socal soon. Last year, when it rained, I just used the mt. bike, but this year I'm not. Is there anything I need to do to protect the leather tape? I have a rain cover on the seat, but am unsure of what, if anything, I can do to protect the seat besides applying mink oil (already done). Anyone konw? |
I use Brooks Proofide dressing on my saddles (Brooks on three bikes :innocent: ), and the 'leather' bar wrap on my LHT. So far no problems with riding in Oregon's 'liquid sunshine'.

O.K., what was I doing at work yesterday while I was posting this? :innocent: I meant Brooks tape, duh! Thanks, I'll hit it with proofhide.

I have had Brooks handlebar tape for 2 years now on my bike, and use a leather like proofide or other water prooofing cleaner/compound. So far, other than normal darkening, I have had no problems.

the Brooks website says no special treatment is needed for the handlebar tape.
