Leather tape

Didn't know where to post this, so if this isn't the right place, let me know.

Anyways, I have a bike with leather Bates handleba tape, and rainy season is coming to Socal soon. Last year, when it rained, I just used the mt. bike, but this year I'm not. Is there anything I need to do to protect the leather tape? I have a rain cover on the seat, but am unsure of what, if anything, I can do to protect the seat besides applying mink oil (already done). Anyone konw?

I use Brooks Proofide dressing on my saddles (Brooks on three bikes ), and the 'leather' bar wrap on my LHT. So far no problems with riding in Oregon's 'liquid sunshine'.

O.K., what was I doing at work yesterday while I was posting this? I meant Brooks tape, duh! Thanks, I'll hit it with proofhide.

I have had Brooks handlebar tape for 2 years now on my bike, and use a leather like proofide or other water prooofing cleaner/compound. So far, other than normal darkening, I have had no problems.

the Brooks website says no special treatment is needed for the handlebar tape.
