Why is it that...
Two days ago a pick-up driver hit me with his mirror while passing me.
Today, 3 drivers yelled at me on my commute home. One of them was oncoming traffic.
So...
Why is it that cars always pass me, in my lane even though there is a wide open passing lane?
why is it that drivers feel compelled to yell at me even though i have headphones on and i cant hear them?
Why is it that when i approach a 4-way stop all drivers forget what to do and there for half an hour and then get mad at me if i go first?
Why is it that when a driver passes me, he feels the need to speed-up like going 50/km faster then me is not enough?
Why is it that drivers need to pass me 20 meters before a light, just so they can cut me off while making a right hand turn?

Why is it that we always focus on the negative? Have you had any good experiences cycling? If not, this may not be the activity for you. If you have, focus on those and not on the idiot drivers. It will make life much nicer. Smile a lot, it makes people wonder what you're thinking!

I've been hit twice, once by a pick up truck and once by a delivery van.
It's a rare day that i don't have a bad experience with a driver.

You asked why the drivers pass you in the same lane when there is a generous berth in the other lane. My question for you is where do you ride in the lane? If you ride really close to the edge of the road the driver might assume he can squeeze by. For me, I ride about 1/2 - 1 foot to the LEFT of the fog line. This benefits me by forcing the driver to go around me to pass, as well as if i have a troublesome river i can scramble out of the way to let him get by me. Also if you ride where I ride you avoid road debris that can puncture your tires. That is my two cents.

Here's my point. How long have you been cycling? Whil I have to agree with you, getting hit twice sucks, there had to have been more positive experiences than negtative. If that isn't the case, might I suggest you find some other lifestyle/hobby? If all I kept pointing out about cycling was how drivers are idiots, I've been hit, etc. etc. I just might start buying my own bu*&%^$it. I just wonder sometimes what someone who doesn't ride a bicycle and comes to this forum to find out about it really goes away thinking! For every positive thread here, there are at least 5 negative ones!

They are doing it on purpose. Many states have a minimum passing distance. Here, in Kansaw, it is 3 feet. If they pass closer than that for nay reason, they are illegally passing the cyclist.
