Lance Loses
OK, for all the people that love everything about Lance, here's one.
Lance lost.
Yes, he was beat out by the Boston Red Sox for Sportsman of the Year.

good thing this was for "sportsman of the year" and not "athlete of the year", or baseball players wouldn't have stood a chance...

I don't entirely disagree. Most people believe in sports curses and such. If they did exist boston would be doomed. While lance proved a lot, they proved more, even the biggest slump in the history of sports can be overcome with good teamwork and a good time 'playing' a sport. I hate baseball but followed this story. I think this goes beyond the 'sport' and goes to what was acheived. Look beyond the sport, I think boston kicked ass...
Besdies its sports illustrated, lame anyways.

That's too bad, especially since the media has been so miserly in its coverage of Lance Armstrong.

The Red Sox story is compelling. It was also more recent than Lance's achievement. It also happened in the USA while Lance won in France. Coverage of baseball is certainly broader than that for cycling. My homage is reserved for Lance's individual achievements as an athlete. I can however understand the selection.

This kind of thinking is why some people don't think Lance has done anything special. "He just rides a bike. Anyone can do that. How can that be a sport?"
BTW. I hate baseball. I just don't like to see people ragging on each others sports out of ignorance.

I love baseball. The Bosox won this year. Yay for the Bosox, yay for baseball.
I love cycling. Lance won last year. Yay for Lance, yay for cycling.
What's the big deal?

Beating the Yankees to get there...
Doing it in convincing fashion against what was arguably the best team in baseball this year...
The characters from the games (Damon, Ortiz, Martinez)...
If this was a movie it couldn't have been scripted any better, and I think that's why they won. My heart and mind is with Lance, however I have no problem with this choice either.

To me Lance showed questionable judgement in chasing down Simioni. To me, that was unsportsmanlike, even if Simioni is a liar (which I'm not commenting on myself). Lance is still somewhat brash to act that way. But it is part of his fire, which he needs to be a champion, I suppose.

I agree with flythebike that chasing down Simeoni was unsportsmanlike. That may be an action of a great champion, but not of a great sportsman.
