Does anyone know?

This may sound like a stupid question, but why don't they make bike shorts in any other color then black? I have rarely seen any solid color other then black. Does the black serve a purpose?

Back when men were men and bike frames were steel, the raceing rules said that shorts had to be black and socks (required) had to be white. In those days the black served another purpose in that it hid the stains caused when the dye from the (black) saddle discolored the shorts.

Shorts are available in other colors today, you just have to look harder for them. Rretailers like black bacause they can be carried over from year to year and they don't get stuck with a bunch of violet colored things that will never sell. Riders like balck because they go with anything else.

Bikes: 1 mtb converted for commuting (actually, collecting dust in the garage), a LHT with "durable components"

when i get off my brooks i appreciate its blackness and while touring i can wear the same one for a long time without having to wash it, very convinent.

www.velowear.com has many colors of shorts. Mine are black because I don't have to think about which shorts go with shich jersey. Black goes with all five of them.
