What is an FSA bottom bracket?

In this context: State Bicycle Co.

I understand the bottom bracket to be the hole in the bottom of the frame where the crankset bolts into, is that correct? If so, what then is an FSA bracket?

FSA is the brand of the bracket and here's Sheldon's info on bottom brackets.

More or less the bottom bracket is simply what holds the cranks on. For most modern bikes you can get a a cartrage style with the bearings built into the unit like this: https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...0052_194724_-1___

Or you can upgrade a bit to ones with outboard bearings that have the cranks attached to the chainring and it slides through like this: https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...0052_502313_-1

There are other styles but not for the bike you pictured.

The bottom bracket is more than just the part of the frame where the down tube, seat tube and chain stays meet. The bottom bracket is the part that fits inside that part of the frame, and includes bearings and races, the axle assembly and the attachment mechanism for the crank arms. I know Sheldon uses the same term for both, but if you order a bottom bracket from a bike shop I guarantee you won't get a lug or casting. You'll get the innards.

^ That, is confusing. But I get the idea, at least.

Thank you, everyone, for the replies.

Interesting they specify a 68X103 BB when the length is actually determined by the crank used???

Steel frame fork and headset I suppose. Looks like it is designed as a SS or Fixie frame.

The "hole" in the frame is the bottom bracket shell. As mentioned above, the bottom bracket is the bearing and spindle assembly that fits into the shell.

Thanks for that. I knew the term, but had forgotten it long ago in my mis-spent youth.

I would expect a steel frame to weigh in at least that much, if not more.

I have 9 steel frames and none of them weigh that much except the old stumpjumper, maybe.

That probably includes the fork and headset too. Perhaps teh tubes are not butted either -- it doesn't say anything like double/triple butted tubing.

Not sure how this bike compares, but the frame is 5lb 11oz and the fork is 2lb 8oz for total of 8.5lbs or so.

Yeah, but the LHT is a touring bike that is known the be particularly hefty. The frame in question is a "track bike".
