Locking Skewers - Worth It?

I was reminded by another thread that I've been meaning to ask about this.

What do you think about locking skewers? Pitlocks and so on? I am going to build a fairly nice set of wheels for my around town roadbike and would like some protection, especially for the front.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

Well, I think that it's obviously more secure to have them than not to have them.

Looking at it from a bicycle thief's point of view, if I were to set out to steal a front wheel that had Pitlocks, I'd just cave it in by stomping down on it with my foot. If I can't have it nobody can have it.

I've used basic bolt-on skewers, which are lighter and a tiny bit more secure than quick release. You only need a hex wrench and a brief moment to remove the wheel.

I don't live in PDX, that solves a lot of issues..

Bike theft is fed by people wanting cheap 2nd hand stuff.. and it's a big market ..

so rattle can nice stuff ugly.. and or carry a heavy chain
capable of locking the bike and both wheels solidly to stuff ..
