This is not true. In Canada, drunk driving is only covered in the Criminal Code of Canada, and only applies to drivers of motor vehicles. The provincial highway traffic acts do not address drunk or impaired driving.

Depending on the province, however, you could get fined for careless driving. You could also be charged against the Criminal Code of Canada for being drunk in a public place.

Bikes: I never learned to ride a bike. It is my deepest shame.

Oh! I was mistaken. I am going to pound a few back and go for a ride to celebrate!

Its the only way to ride a bike, anyone doing it not drunk is doing it wrong.
jk yes When I'm drunk and ride around I tend to not feel my legs burning so much which then translates into longer riding. Not necessarily faster speed wise but definitely less breaks in riding and more consistent cadence.

"Bicyclist Can't Handle Bars"

There have been a couple cases of drunk cyclists getting injured in collisions here in Portland. One bike-on-bike head-on resulted in a fatality, IIRC.

Long ago, I found that running while really drunk is hella fun. You get that sense of invincibility and the wind swooshing by.

I did try this once with biking (in slow, residential areas mind you, I am not that stupid), and sadly found it to be much less exhilarating. If anything, it just made me super paranoid every time a car passed me.

Not in every state. You have to look at the specific statutes, and how "vehicle" or "motor vehicle" is defined.

There are 51 different DUI laws in the US and District of Columbia.

Whatever. A sober motorist is still wayyy more likely to kill someone than even the drunkest cyclist. If anything drunk cyclists should be applauded just for the fact that they're not driving.

And yeah, as others said the laws vary by region. In a lot of places the only thing you can get on a bicycle is public drunkenness, which you could get on foot anyway.

I have never ridden a bicycle while being intoxicated by alchohol. But often times, after i get off work with my buddy from the local pizza shop, have indulged in some herb, and then promptly ride home. From my experience, it is a lot more difficult pedaling home like that, than sober.

In the 70s, we rode totally blotto drunk, as well as tripping and on every other mind altering substance then known to science. Although it may have been technically illegal, no cop would ever cite you for it. They'd be glad you weren't in a car.

But that was a simpler time. I've long since given up drinking (never learned when to say when) and in many jurisdictions I understand it's now relatively easy to get a DUI ticket on a bike. Attitudes have changed a great deal in that regard.

I really never rode drunk.

But I do nopt see a real problem doing so. I don't thnk I'd be that much more impaired than I thyically was near the end of a double century.

I have gone swimming or skin (not scuba) diving pretty wasted. Generally not a good idea, but teh skin diving was in a very calm area and I am very very at home in the water.

I think the same kind of idea apply to riding drunk. Someone who rides a lot and avoids dicey areas while drunk should be fine.

From My experience however MUPs and anywhere near a bar are apt to be dicey areas.
