Two months ago?! That's a long time. Downtown DC changes daily, no hourly, when it comes to security.

It's all being fenced off, on both sides of Madison and Jefferson Streets, as well as up near the Capitol. The Washington Monument is already walled off for security construction. I have not been down by the Lincoln Memorial, since I live on the east side of the city. I understand that many streets within several blocks will be closed at least part of next week.

My office was on constitution accross from the old post office, and
we were told that if we were in the building the day of the coronation
of Ronald the Second that we would probably be visited by the Secret
Service if we were noticed (and we would have been, I guarandamntee it).
as I said this is nothing to fool around with, it isn't some CMer getting a
ticket by the DC police, its gonna be secret service and they do not have
a sense of humor.
Ya'll ever ski blue knob?

Where as protesters do not have the right to obstruct public events, they should have first amendment rights to be heard.Numerous public appearances by Bush have caused protesters to be carted off great distances away with the erection of fences to put them out of the way of cameras...
In Pittsburg they even erected steel cages where protesters had to be placed..They looked like prison bars..The first amendment says you have the right to redress your government...Whether you like Bush or not, some future year you could be placed in steel cages just for rendering your opinion..
I see no harm in allowing CMers to ride down an adjacent boulevard parallel to Constitution Blvd...To not allow such will infringe upon anyone's rights...present or future.
I read no public sightings of the parade are allowed...All viewings are blocked off with barricades and it takes $60 to get aview....The emperor can't stand dissent...Silence or go away..
Not the America I was taught in civics class...
I read the viewing public can't even wave American flags...No umberellas allowed...I hope it rains like hell.
You bare naked CMers get to prove your metal..

Here's the latest on street closures in DC. Turns out that I have been called out of town on business. Hrmph...just as I was looking forward to the festivities.

I would expect nothing less if I crashed the Inauguration on a bike, especially if I were nekkid.

What is your opinion, then? That cyclists deserve equal rights? That President Bush is an *******? If it is the former, don't crash the Inauguration, please. You'll do more harm than good. If it is the latter, post in the Politics forum.

Dont think anyone expects to join the Inaugural parade on bikes nekid...Just every presidential inaugural parade in history has allowed the viewing public to watch..What 3-5 miles of public streets blocked off so the public can't watch or express its' opinons without paying $60..Never happend in our history..It is a public street..Washingonians own that street...Shunt off people to remote distances so opposite voices can't be heard..Might happen to you some day..
Now Nekkid cyclists obstruct the parade..The cops have a job to do...But, can't American's see ...A lazy media is in collaboration with the powers that be to not paint a correct view of how the public sees ourselves..
now, what is wrong with allowing protesters on parallel streets.? its all our rights...and it is about your right to use your bike as you see fit..
.The First Amendment should allow you to use your bike as a means of transportation or making a statment about bikers rights or any other first amendment right..

I feel sorry for all DC residents--not only to have this massive BS foisted on you, but then to have to freakin' pay for it! If we lived there, we'd leave town for the week if at all possible.

Hey hey hey, you all are talking about bicyclists not being much of a threat, just making a statement. But member that Dutch guy? He got offed by a dude on a bike. And hey, those poor wretches we're daily taking advantage of all ride the old Flying Pigeon. W and his minions should see any biker as a flaming 3rd worlder, and there by guilty of something terroristic or something. Bike riders are everything he and his ilk are against.

I got a ride! I'll be snowboarding early, telemark after lunch. It was pretty good yesterday except for snow cannons on all open trails (bring goggles!). By Thursday there will likely be some open runs without snowmaking in progress on them, maybe a few inches of natural on top from Wednesday night! Get there early for the fresh groom, it will get icy with skier traffic but I don't expect any long lines.

Just be sure to warm up before you head out. Remember, if you can't touch your wrists behind your back, you're going to be sore by the end of the day.

Sounds like another CM ride being hijacked by whacko political activist just like in NYC.

Funny ... I'm not aware of any clause in the first amendment that guarantees a right to be heard.

Oops, I have to work tomorrow. I'm going to be doing something about the inauguration, don't know what just told to show up at NY and 15th at ten am. If I check out the CM ride I might get detained and not make it to this job, so I guess I'm missing everything. This snow in the city will give everybody an idea to ski. I do think it will get crowded now. Get there for 8:30 chair if you go. First tracks and plenty of skiing before the hordes descend. Have fun!
