All of this still brings us back to the three things most often given for buying something other than steel. Weight, Rust and flex. I my not be a drawback to some but it was enough to give other materials not only a hold but almost replaced steel in the major manufacturers line up. Notice I was careful to say almost. Some people can live with the limitations and maybe not even consider them limiations but somthing has caused steel to fall from grace to a degree for road bikes and now MTBs.
My last steel bike was a Trek Steel hardtail. Whenever I took it out riding with my MTB friends they insisted on trying to pick it up. It was the subject of conversation much of the rest of the day. Now they make some full suspension bikes that are lighter I believe. I finally gave the bike to my Nephew so I can look for something lighter and easier to flick around on a single track.
