Good multi-speed cruiser

Hi all;

I'm looking for a multi-speed cruiser bike. 7 or more speeds is ideal. Any suggestions?

I know there is a dislike of walmart bikes; I am considering this one though:

Hi

Assuming you are in the US ( bad assumption i know ) . Have you looked at https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/cruiser_bikes.htm
They often have bikes which cost the same as wall mart bike but are better build quality . This is assuming you are ok with a bit of assembly .

We once had an old piano that wasn't worth fixing. I sold it for $100 (or maybe $75). The guy asked, "Is it any good?" I said, "If it was, it wouldn't be $100". It's like buying a $100 car. On paper, it'll have all the features of a $15,000 car. But it isn't one.

I rode a $100 Academy bike off and on for a year. I got tired of fiddling with adjustments and stuff not working well, and ordered a new bike about the time that one got stolen. The new one was a single-speed cruiser, and it was actually an upgrade. The distinction was that I could actually ride that bike every day, instead of fiddling with brakes and gears and stuff on the other one.

Anyway, if you buy it and don't use it much, it won't matter. If you buy it and it works great and you get a lot of fun miles out of it, good deal. If you buy it and decide it's a piece of crap, then you won't mind shelling out $1,000 for a better bike.

Bikes: 8

if you learn how bike parts interchange, you can, and will, make changes
to a bike that is close but not exactly what you like.

7 and 8 speed hub hears are a good idea for clean, trouble-free riding. Cruiser designs suffer from Too Much Metal, they are heavier than they need to be and not as strong as they could be.
Check out Breezer bikes, they make some well engineered practical utility bikes that (like any good bike) weighs as much as it needs too, but no more.

I picked up an old walmart cruiser at a yard sale for a buck as a donor bike took off the handlebars, stem, tires and put them on a 21 speed mountain bike (no suspension) I also found for a few bucks. I added an old school saddle and a coffee cup holder and had a really nice cruiser with really great low gearing for cheap and one that will last a lifetime.

So if you get the walmart bike and it falls apart in a year or so save the parts and use them to build a frankncruiser.

It's mind boggling to me that you can get an entire bike for $165, no matter how crappy. There're the raw materials, fabrication of all the parts, assembly, transportation across the Pacific, delivery to the store, final assembly at the store, associated overhead, and some profit ... amazing.

Why not do what i did and order a Worksman cruiser built to your order. Worksman builds tough bikes for long term use for just a little more money than the big box junk.

I'm having a pretty good time with my (2012) Giant Simple Seven. Aluminum frame, 7 speeds, seems sturdy enough, rides smoothly.

OR, put a Nu Vinci continuously variable ratio hub wheel, in a cruiser frame and stop counting gears.
