Cleaning bike

Happy Holiday all,
I have a steel road bike & just wondering what you use to clean the frame, the tape & hoods.

Thanks,
Robert G

I use Meguiars Gold Class car wash and spray wax. It works great and I happen to have a large stockpile of the stuff from my car days. I'm assuming of course you have paint on your bike.

The paint on a bike is probably like car paint, so I would think any car soap would be fine.

Meguiars does make good soap and wax. I like their Ultimate wax and I waxed my bike with that. I use Ultimate quick detail to clean up. I also have Ultimate Quick wax for adding more protection.

Bikes: I never learned to ride a bike. It is my deepest shame.

I find a nice coating of hand sweat and grime is a good protective cover on my tape. On the frame paint, I figure rust is as good a protector as any.

2 microfiber towels. One wet with normal water (I don't like using soap because you have to scrub more and I'm satisfied with the outcome of using plain water), and another dry to... dry. I might use a scotchbrite pad for tape if you feel like making it a little more porous which in turn makes the grip more tacky. If you don't have scotchbrite pads (or the rough side of that famous green and yellow sponge), you can also use fine grit sand paper or again, the microfiber towels. Simple green is a good cleaner for almost everything BTW.

Spray down with the hose, let it drip dry, then clean and re-lube the chain...which reminds me that I need more Tri-flow.

Side note: If you got the bike from the LBS, hopefully they applied some Framesaver before you rolled out the door.

OK. First, don't spray it with a hose because it's steel. Second, don't let it drip dry because it's steel.

I wouldn't even spray any bike with a hose because the components might rust if I don't dry all the spots. You want to dry the bike clean of clean ASAP so no kind of corrosion starts.

Spraying bike = bad; as in you can inadvertently wash out grease from bearings.
I trickle water on it. Then, apply a bike polish, Followed by buffing/drying with a microfibre towel.
