A late 80's Specialized Hard Rock, now streetified with fenders, lights, a rack and panniers. It's my all-round bike. I've used it for trails, utility and commuting in the last week.
A Bachetta Giro 20 for cruising.
A Giant Stiletto, the best parade bike ever.
An American Eagle/Nishiki my commuter for decades.
A Kabuki Syd, payment for some web work.

All of mine are listing in my signature and as Machka said "because I can".

I still want to add a couple of bikes to the group. ( just built the wheels today) When the kid is out of college a TI bike is in my future.

Why? because I like bikes and for some strange reason I like road bikes

and my wife does't complain about them.

The other question I am often asked is "do you ride all of them?", not really, I ride each of them at least once a year, but I mostly ride the bike best suited for the situation. If I am visiting my daughter at college I will bring the folder, touring bike for touring, the carbon fiber was just kind of an experiment to see how light I could make it (about 17 lbs). I use the oldest bike on a trainer.

I normally ride the road bikes.

I did list my two bikes in my original post. But I didn't explain why I have them (oops, guess I forgot that part):
1. I found the Masi at a local bike shop "like new" and it was love at first sight
2. The Frankenstein started out as a Schwinn Cutter then became something else entirely after switching out the parts (including the frame) over and over again. Who knows what it'll end up being this time next week. Why? Because I like to tinker (I have the same problem with computers).

I'd like to have more bikes but with the limited amount of space (for storing them) in SF and the high cost of living, two is all I can economically justify...for the moment.

Why? Because my wife likes bright and shiny thing's that commute on her finger.

Too darn many. Luckily three of them are out on loan right now so I can get around the garage easier.

I have a few.

Ready to ride:

1) 2003 Giant Sedona DX, my primary rider up until this year.

2) Trek 7.3 FX, my new primary rider, I wanted to move up to 700c wheels and found a good deal on CL.

These first two are actually pretty similarly equipped except for the wheel size.

3) Old Schwinn Voyageur with modern 105 components To ride when I lose enough weight to want a drop bar bike.

4) A Raleigh Mountain bike converted for rail trails (slick tires, rigid fork and raised bar) as a loaner

5) A Diamondback hybrid I got late last season, as a loaner. My only bike with disc brakes.

6) A Raleigh Sport, because I wanted a British bike.

7) An old Specialized Hard Rock I use on the trainer (as rarely as I use the trainer) Similar to my daily rider as far as posture, but I don't have to drag my rider down stairs.

8) A Motobecane Grand Sprint because I didn't have a French bike in the stable.

Needing some (or much) assembly or maintenance:

1) A 1956 Schwinn Corvette middleweight because I wanted to construct a bike similar to what I rode in high school... and kept partly because I also wanted a bike older than I am, and I discovered this was older than I am based on the serial number after I bought it.

2) A very similar 1962-63 Schwinn Jaguar middleweight because it was given to me.

3 & 4) a pair of 1979 Schwinn Le Tour IV bikes (one red, and one blue) because my first bike as an adult was a blue 1979 Le Tour IV I bought on a whim as I walked past the Schwinn dealer in Oceanside California. I rode the bike back to base that day instead of taking the bus.

5) An early 1970's Sears bike, because a friend of mine used to ride the bike in HS, and didn't have room for it a couple of years ago.

6) A Sears Ted Williams bike because I wanted a Reynolds 531 bike sold by Sears (mostly non-original components).

7) A mountain bike built up from a nice frame I bought on eBay because it looked nice

Several other vintage road bikes, nothing to write home about, but they are perfectly suitable for casual riding. and a few frames and piles of parts just in case I need them.

I am trying to simplify my life, so I expect the number of bikes to reduce, but I haven't figured out what I am willing to give up yet. :)

So how do you store all of those bikes so you can easily find and access the one that you want?

I have three now (but of course want more). I'm a fan of having one for each discipline, but trying to have as little overlap as possible since then you get into the HUGE numbers!

1. Cannondale CAAD10 (road bike for training, long rides, centuries, etc)
2. Santa Cruz Highball (mountain bike for XC, mild DH, races?, etc)
3. Schwinn Traveler (commuter, flat pedals so can easily ride to the store, work, etc and the only one I am willing to lock up anywhere)

I'd like to get a full suspension DH bike at some point along with a clean, single speed steel commuter (or convert over the Traveler?). Then I'd have all my current bike uses fully covered (until I get talked into racing or Triathalons...)

Old bike, less gears, love the heck out of it, new bike, more gears, because I could, new-to-me mtb so I can ride snow trails and crap and keep the other 2 for better conditions. And because I could.

I just wish so many cool looking kitted out folk would stop passing me so fast.

2014 Norco threshold A2 for commuting, general adventuring, and maybe a race or two this year.

2014 Fit Bf 2 Bmx, because the bug has never left me, going on 29 and i still won't give it up.

2004 Kona Stinky because downhill bikes are awesome and its worth it to do something scary once and a while.

My wife Is getting a new bike this year as well.

2014 trek Cali S 29er because i don't want her to ride a garbage walmart/canadian tire bike ever again.

bikes i don't want to count because they are garbage.

Huffy nel luso cruiser bike that i bought when i was on my vacation in the states, i know its hard to imagine but in Canada walmart bikes are even worse then the bikes at the walmarts in the states.

Everyday traveler, a bike i bought on a whim with my wife when we were dating so we could go on a fun bike ride. (she is so miserable to ride with on this bike, and i don't blame her..the thing is garbage even when tuned up)

6 . 2 commuters ( 1 fair weather 1 foul ). 2 road bikes ( 1 summer 1 winter ) and 2 mountain bikes. And why not?

Road, road, hybrid, hybrid, folder, tandem, fixed.

Just 2 at this moment

Mountain bike for riding with my son and for winter rides.

Hybrid to enjoy myself on a long, lonely /not really/ rides.

I have no need for a road bike, and not old enough for a comfort bike ;-)
